Privacy policy

Your tabs stay yours.

Last updated: 26 October 2026

The short version. To group your tabs, Tabrio sends their titles and site names to an AI — only after you agree, and only after a filter on your computer removes private details. We never see page content, full links, cookies or your browsing history. Nothing about your tabs is stored on our servers. No ads, no analytics, no tracking.

01Who is responsible

Tabrio, Riga, Latvia, is the “controller” of the personal data described here. Contact: [email protected].

02What is sent — and what never is

Nothing is sent until you choose Turn on AI grouping. If you choose “Not now”, Tabrio works as a plain tab list and sends nothing about your tabs. You can change this anytime in Settings.

DataSent?Why
Tab titles (after the filter)YesSo the AI can tell what each tab is about
Site names, e.g. skyscanner.netYesContext for the title
Names of your existing groupsYesSo new tabs can join them
Full links and their parametersNever—
Page content, forms, passwordsNever—
Cookies, browsing history, bookmarksNever—
Files opened from your computerNeverGrouped on your computer as “Local files”

The privacy filter runs on your computer before anything is sent:

  • Titles from email sites (like Gmail or Outlook) become just “Email”, chat sites (like WhatsApp or Slack) become “Messages”, and social media profiles become “Social media”.
  • Email addresses become [email], passwords and secret codes become [code], bank account numbers become [account], and long numbers such as card, phone or order numbers become [number].
  • Invisible characters are removed and titles are shortened to 80 characters.
The filter is built to remove the most common kinds of private details. The rest of a title is sent as written and used only to choose its group — we don't keep it, and it isn't used to train AI. You can turn AI grouping off anytime in Settings.

03How grouping works

  • The extension reads tab titles and site names through Chrome's tab API. It has no access to the content of pages: it doesn't run any code inside the websites you visit.
  • The filtered titles go to our server on Cloudflare, which forwards them to Anthropic's Claude AI.
  • The AI sends back group names; the groups are saved on your computer.
  • Our server doesn't store or log tab titles, site names or group names. Anthropic processes them to answer the request and, under its commercial terms, does not use them to train its models.

04What our server keeps

  • If you buy Pro: your email address, your licence key, your Paddle customer and subscription IDs, the plan, the subscription status, the related dates, and the random install ID of the browser where Pro was first turned on. We use these to turn Pro on, to restore it on another computer, and to cancel it when you ask.
  • For automatic Pro activation: a scrambled (hashed) one-time code that links your payment to the browser you paid from.
  • For Restore Pro: the email you enter and the one-time code we send you, kept for 10 minutes or until you use it.
  • Before you pay: when you enter your email in the Upgrade window, we check whether it already has Pro — just yes or no — so you don't pay twice. The email isn't stored for this.
  • To stop abuse: a random ID created when you install Tabrio, and your IP address, are used to count how many groupings, Restore Pro attempts and Pro activations are requested per hour and per day. The counts are deleted automatically when that hour or day is over.
  • Technical logs: Cloudflare, which runs our server, records basic logs of each request — the time, which part of the server was called, the result and approximate location, which can include your IP address — and keeps them for a few days so we can fix problems and keep the service secure. Our own log entries never contain your tab titles, email address or licence key.
  • How long: a Pro record is kept while your subscription runs and for up to 24 months after it ends — so you can come back with the same licence — unless you ask us to delete it sooner. Restore codes last 10 minutes, usage counts at most a day, and logs a few days.

05What stays on your computer

Your groups, history, archives, saved sessions, score, settings, site icons, when you last used each page, and Tabrio's random install ID are stored by Chrome on your computer. If you're on Pro, your settings and licence key are also saved in Chrome's sync storage, so Google can carry them to your other Chrome profiles if you've turned on Chrome sync. Clearing data in Settings or removing the extension deletes all of it.

Tabrio uses no analytics, no advertising or tracking services and no cookies. Site icons come from Chrome's own icon cache on your computer — no request is sent to Google or to the site.

06Payments and email

Pro is sold by Paddle (paddle.com), our merchant of record. You pay on Paddle's secure checkout; we never see your card details. Paddle handles billing, tax, receipts and refunds under its own privacy policy and sends us your email and subscription details.

The checkout page loads Paddle's payment form, which may use cookies that Paddle needs for a secure payment. Our own website sets no cookies.

When you use Restore Pro, we send a one-time code to your email through Resend, which keeps a delivery record for a limited time. We don't send newsletters or marketing email.

09Data outside the EU

Anthropic, Cloudflare, Resend and Google are based in the United States, so the data they process for us may be handled there (our email is sent from Resend's servers in Ireland). These transfers are covered by the safeguards in their terms — the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and, where the company is certified, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

sessions“Welcome back”: asks Chrome to reopen the windows it closed, with their tab groups. Tabrio only looks for windows that hold pages from your groups, and doesn't send this anywhere

Tabrio does not ask for access to your full browsing history, bookmarks, cookies, downloads or the content of websites. Chrome may describe the tabs and sessions permissions as “read your browsing history”: in practice Tabrio reads the titles and addresses of your open and recently closed tabs, and nothing leaves your computer except the filtered titles described above.

The use and transfer of information received by the Tabrio extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. It is used only to provide Tabrio's features, never for advertising, never sold, and never used to decide creditworthiness.

11Your choices and rights

  • Turn AI grouping off anytime in Settings.
  • Delete everything stored on your computer with Settings → Clear all data, or by removing the extension.
  • Ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it — email us and we'll answer within 30 days. Deleting a Pro record also ends Pro on your computers.
  • If you're in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Tabrio isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

12Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If Tabrio starts collecting or using data in a new way, we'll tell you inside the extension before the change applies.
